In a world where so many nonprofits are dependent on federal funding to do their work, thankfully, our nonprofit remains independent of federal support.  This is fortuitous, as we see the government slashing programs willy-nilly and defunding billions of worthy programs and agencies.

Happily, independence ensures we can stay true to our mission, principles, and maintain our integrity. As such, we can speak out boldly, act swiftly, and focus 100% on what is best for consumers and workers.

As President Trump rolls out his 100+ days of relentless – and often illegal – executive orders and Elon Musk’s DOGE continues to gut government agencies, NCL’s staff is working double-time to protect federal workers and agencies. These include the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  We oppose gutting the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and the Department of Education, and fear the long-term impact of cuts to the critical research functions of the Department of Health and Human Services. We’ve formed strategic partnerships and coalitions championing transparency in healthcare, defending consumer protections, and demanding a fairer, safer marketplace. We rallied with more than a hundred partners to combat child labor and amplify the voices of those too often left unheard.

We equip everyday consumers with the tools to spot scams and fraud and challenge hidden fees that chip away at their hard-earned paychecks. From advocating for vaccine equity to confronting unfair practices in the health system, we back every call to action with facts, data, and purpose.
