Battling AI-Powered Scams: NCL Leads the Conversation

In September, NCL and George Washington University teamed up to host Artificial Intelligence and Consumer Fraud: Risks, Responses, and Policy Solutions. The keynote address was delivered by Marc Rotenberg, Executive Director and Founder of the Center for AI and Digital Policy and the program included expert panelists from the Aspen Institute, CTIA, Google, JPMorgan Chase, Consumer Reports, Amazon, Consumer Federation of America, FICO, the Federal Trade Commission, Microsoft, George Washington University, and the University of Virginia.

“AI is reshaping every facet of our economy and daily lives—including the tactics used by fraudsters to target consumers,” said John Breyault, NCL’s VP of Public Policy, Telecommunications, and Fraud. “This conference brought together the brightest minds in technology, consumer protection, and public policy and created a space to discuss solutions that can reduce the growing wave of AI-fueled fraud.”

In 2025, criminals are weaponizing AI to turbocharge scams. Our conference showcased cutting-edge tools harnessing AI to fight fraud and explore the policy responses needed to protect consumers in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The link to the video footage is available here.
