Building a stronger generation
A grease fire flared up in Decklan’s kitchen. As his family scrambled and panicked, fearing that the whole house might erupt in flames, Decklan remained calm. He hurried over to the pantry, grabbed some baking soda, and dumped it on the fire quickly extinguishing the blaze.

Script Your Future saved my life
Cincinnati resident Charles, 45, lost his computer business — and health insurance— during a time of economic downturn. A diabetic, Charles was now unable to afford his medication. He stopped taking it which made him seriously ill and put his life at risk.

For a safer workplace
Jeremy is a fast-food worker who has been employed at a number of Chipotle restaurants in New York City. When he was just 20 years old, he took part in an NCL research project that revealed that management practices within the fast food chain were putting workers—and food safety for customers—at risk.

Our Honorees
Sue Peschin, MHS - Alliance for Aging Research, President & CEO
Sue Peschin, MHS, is President and CEO of the Alliance for Aging Research, the leading nonprofit dedicated to advancing healthy aging and equitable access to care.
Since 2012, she has led efforts to increase federal investment in aging research, develop the Talk NERDY (Nurturing Engagement in Research and Development with You) network, and advocate for equitable Medicare affordability and access. An accomplished speaker and thought leader, her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and top-tier newspapers. She serves on the Boards of the Association of Black Cardiologists and the National Health Council, as well as advisory boards for the UCSF-Stanford Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation and the UMD Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center. Previously, she held senior roles at the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Consumer Federation of America, Hadassah, and the Violence Policy Center.
Karyne Jones - National Caucus and Center on Black Aging, Inc., President & CEO
Karyne Jones is President and CEO of the National Caucus and Center on Black Aging, Inc. (NCBA), the nation’s only organization devoted solely to advocating for minority participation in aging services.
Prior to leading NCBA, she served as Executive Director of Federal Relations for SBC Telecommunications, lobbying Congress on telecommunications policy. She also worked with Congressman Andrew Young as his Public Affairs Officer and White House Liaison. A former Texas State Representative for District 120 in San Antonio, she served on key legislative committees and held leadership roles in the House Democratic Caucus and the Black and Mexican American Legislative Caucuses. Karyne currently serves on the Boards of the Alzheimer’s Association, Generations United, and the Center for Innovation, and was the first African American woman to chair the American Society on Aging. A graduate of Clark Atlanta University, she holds master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University and Harvard University and has been honored for her influential leadership and advocacy.
Beth Battaglino, RN-C - HealthyWomen, President & CEO
Beth Battaglino, RN-C, serves as President and CEO of HealthyWomen, the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to advancing women’s health through education and empowerment.
As a practicing maternal medicine nurse, Beth brings clinical expertise and business acumen to her role, driving HealthyWomen’s mission to improve health outcomes nationwide. Under her leadership, HealthyWomen launched the first comprehensive women’s health digital platform and Soy HealthyWomen, the only Spanish-language women’s health website in the U.S. In 2024, the organization received multiple accolades, including Digital Health Awards, Apex Awards, and an Anthem Award for mission-driven work. Beth continues to shape the future of women’s health, ensuring all women have the knowledge and resources to make informed health decisions.
Patty Nece, JD - Obesity Action Coaliton, Past Chair
Patricia Nece, JD, is a passionate advocate for patient access to science-based obesity treatments and the eradication of weight-based bias, stigma, and discrimination.
She is the Past Chair of the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), an 85,000-member nonprofit giving a voice to people affected by obesity, and currently chairs OAC’s Weight Bias Committee. Patricia also serves on the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Obesity Solutions and the World Obesity Federation’s Policy and Prevention Committee. After 37 years of service in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Solicitor’s Office, she continues to drive change by sharing her own experiences with lifelong obesity.
