From toys to tools, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has your back, but they need our help

NCL is pushing back on the latest attack on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). According to a leaked document, the Trump Administration plans to eliminate the CPSC and absorb its functions into the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Additionally, this month, the administration attempted to illegally fire the three democratic commissioners.

CPSC is the agency that protects us from deadly cribs and highchairs for infants and toddlers, exploding e-bikes, furniture tip-overs that crush children, and garage doors that have trapped and killed our little ones. This agency saves lives by removing dangerous products from the market and holding industries accountable. Weakening or politicizing it puts all of us at risk.

“America first shouldn’t put product safety last,” said Daniel Greene, Senior Director of Product Safety and Consumer Protection at the National Consumers League. “The CPSC – signed into law by Republican President Richard Nixon – is enshrined as an independent agency with a Congressional mandate to protect Americans from injury and death from hazardous consumer products.”
