Help
Build Congressional Support for The
Youth Worker Protection Act (H.R. 3139) On
September 23, 2003, Congressman Tom Lantos (D-CA), joined by more than
30 House colleagues, introduced the Youth Worker Protection Act (H.R.
3139). This is a
comprehensive bill that updates the nation’s child labor laws,
providing more protections for working minors from hazardous work and
too much work. These
laws have not been comprehensively updated since the enactment of the
Fair Labor Standards Act in 1938. What
You Can Do You
can help build Congressional support for the Youth Worker Protection Act
(H.R. 3139). Contact your
House Representative and urge him/her to co-sponsor this important
legislation to strengthen protections for working minors under the Fair
Labor Standards Act. Here’s
how to go about it. It’s
as easy as one…two…three… 1.
To find contact information for your Representative, go to http://www.house.gov/writerep/.
You’ll need your zip code. 2.
Write your message. We’ve
provided a sample message if you want to use it – or personalize and
send your own message. You
can cut and paste the sample we provide. 3.
Send your message. The
Child Labor Coalition thanks you for sending a letter to your
Representative. It matters.
Every 30 seconds, a young worker under age 18 is injured in the
United States. One working
teen dies in the workplace every five days. |
