PAHEADRA ROBINSON

Jackson native Paheadra Robinson joined the Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ), a public interest law firm committed to advancing racial and economic justice, in August of 2006. She currently directs MCJ’s Consumer Legal Resource Center, where she has built a coalition aimed at abolishing predatory payday lending throughout the state of Mississippi.

In addition to private practice, Robinson’s experience includes serving as legislative counsel to three House committees: Conservation and Water Management, Juvenile Justice, and Municipalities. Her knowledge of the Legislature and its players have been instrumental in opening important Capitol doors for the Center for Justice.

In the spirit of NCL's first Executive Secretary Florence Kelley, for whom this award is named, Paheadra is a true community activist. Her interest in social justice and welfare led her to co-found the Mississippi-based Fresh Start Foundation to provide direct financial aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Recognized for her tireless commitment to the state of Mississippi, Robinson was recently selected to participate in Jackson’s Parents for Public Schools’ Leadership Institute, which trains an engaged network of parent leaders to implement school improvement projects and increase school performance.

Robinson attended Jackson’s Lanier High School and is a graduate of Tougaloo College and the University of Mississippi School of Law. Paheadra and her husband Mike, also an attorney, live in Jackson with their two young sons, Kameron and Kristopher.
